The 6 Best Bellevue Sushi Restaurants

Japonessa Sushi Cocina

500 Bellevue Way NE Suite 130, Bellevue, WA 98004, United States // +14254541585

A word of warning before we dive in: my love for sushi is unrivaled, so you might catch a hint of that excitement in my words! I’m going to let you in on a little secret – Japonessa Sushi Cocina in Bellevue.

Now, I’ve eaten my way through quite a few sushi joints in my time, but let me tell you, nothing has intrigued my palate quite like Japonessa.

Tucked away in Lincoln Square South, Japonessa isn’t your run-of-the-mill sushi spot. It’s a place where the refined elegance of Japanese cuisine meets the lively kick of Latin flavors. Think traditional sushi, but with a twist.

As soon as you step into the vibrant space, with its modern bar and bustling kitchen, you can’t help but get swept up in the anticipation of the culinary journey ahead. I swear, you could almost taste the adventure in the air.

Now, every dish at Japonessa, in my experience, is a riot of flavors. Their nigiri and sashimi, for instance, are nothing short of delightful – traditional at heart, yet playfully adorned with jalapeno, cilantro, and mango.

But the real stars? The sushi rolls! They’ve got this one, the Mexican Ninja – it’s as bold and vibrant as its name. And the Wicked Sensation? Exactly as it sounds! But the one that stole my heart was the Scorpio Sting

It’s this irresistible blend of cucumber, cilantro, king salmon, and mango – a rollercoaster of flavors that left me in awe.

Yes, it’s a little pricier than your average sushi place – rolls are generally around $20 to $25 – but for a unique experience like this, I’d say it’s worth every penny.

And if you’re in the mood to splurge, their Omakase offerings run from $50 to $200, depending on how grand you want your feast to be.

All in all, Japonessa is a standout for those adventurous souls who dare to stray from traditional sushi. It’s a spot that’s perfect for any event, be it a business meet or a fun night out.

So, if you’re ready for a fresh spin on sushi, I can’t recommend Japonessa enough! Go ahead, give it a try, and let me know if you love it as much as I do!

I Love Sushi on Lake Bellevue

23 Lake Bellevue Dr, Bellevue, WA 98005, United States // +14254559090

Have you ever had one of those days when you stumble upon a place so hidden yet so brilliant that it feels like your little secret? That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered “I Love Sushi on Lake Bellevue.”

Tucked away behind car dealerships, shielded by buildings, and nestled alongside a serene little lake, this gem of a sushi place is one for the books.

Lake Bellevue is this quiet little nook, so hidden that you might not even know it exists despite living in the city for years.

It’s a bit of an oddball, mainly known for housing the Crab Pot. Now, as much as I enjoy my time at the Crab Pot, “I Love Sushi” offers a distinctly different ambiance, an experience that is uniquely its own.

And what an experience it is! I Love Sushi is famous for its premium quality sushi, all thanks to Jun Takai, the celebrated chef who once led this place and now heads Takai By Kashiba.

The staff here, trained under his expert guidance, serve up some of the finest sushi cuts you’ll find in the Seattle area. Trust me; it’s an absolute treat.

My last visit was nothing short of delightful. We started off with a soothing round of saki, a heartwarming bowl of miso soup, and a comforting serving of potato salad

And then came the main event – the sushi rolls. Let me tell you; every bite was an explosion of flavor!

If you get a chance, I highly recommend trying their tuna tasting. For $30, you’re treated to an exceptional selection of tuna cuts, including the delectable O-toro. It’s an incredible value-for-money experience.

Another personal favorite of mine is the 14-piece omakase. It might be a bit on the expensive side, but the high-quality sushi you get is definitely worth the price.

But what really warmed my heart was their offering of free hot green tea. In the midst of the divine food and the scenic lake view, it was this thoughtful gesture that truly made my day.

Add to that their attentive, friendly staff, and you’ve got an experience that ticks all the right boxes.

“I Love Sushi on Lake Bellevue” may not be the most visible sushi spot, but it’s an experience you wouldn’t want to miss.

It’s one of those places that gives you a taste of the unexpected, a taste that leaves you craving for more.

So, why not give it a shot? Trust me; you’ll be singing “I love sushi” before you know it!

Minamoto Japanese Restaurant

11011 NE 9th St, Bellevue, WA 98004, United States // +14259993338

Bellevue is home to some real culinary gems, and Minamoto is definitely one of them. This stylish spot might come with a higher price tag than more budget-friendly options like Ginza, but trust me, every penny spent here is a penny well spent.

Step inside Minamoto, and you’re instantly transported into a Zen-like state, thanks to its beautifully simplistic and tasteful décor.

It’s an ideal location for those special occasions – a romantic date night, a joyous birthday, or even a significant anniversary.

But let’s talk about the star of the show – the food. Minamoto presents a wide ocean of choices, boasting an extensive menu that features raw bar delicacies and quintessential Japanese favorites.

One of my first culinary adventures here was a hearty bowl of Ramen, with its tender pork pieces swimming in a robust, flavorful broth that was nothing short of sensational.

Following that, we decided to sample the much-talked-about Shio Saba. And boy, did it live up to the hype! Perfectly char-grilled, this dish was a flavorful revelation, speaking volumes about Minamoto’s commitment to culinary excellence.

No Japanese feast is complete without the ritualistic indulgence of sushi. We opted for a large platter, and each sushi roll was a delicious masterpiece, meticulously crafted and tantalizingly fresh.

The Sweet Potato Roll emerged as the dark horse, offering an unexpected, yet delightful flavor profile.

What’s more, Minamoto scores big with its comprehensive array of vegetarian and vegan options – each equally inviting and sumptuous. The service here is flawless, the staff exuding a warm friendliness that added to the entire dining experience.

Parking troubles? None whatsoever. And though it’s a chic, high-end dining spot, the prices are impressively reasonable, making the experience all the more satisfying.

Dining at Minamoto is an “Ichigo Ichie” – a once-in-a-lifetime encounter that etches itself in your memory. So, if you’re on the lookout for an exceptional evening, you’ve got your destination.

Kobe Bellevue Restaurant

850 110th Ave NE #5147, Bellevue, WA 98004, United States // +14254513888

Nestled in the heart of Bellevue, Kobe, a no-frills Pan-Asian haven, quickly became my go-to spot for late-night sushi cravings. It’s a bit of a secret gem, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but once you discover it, there’s no turning back.

If the mark of a great sushi restaurant is its specialty rolls, then Kobe absolutely knocks it out of the park. Every bite was a burst of flavor that left me craving for more.

The Kobe roll, aptly named after the restaurant, was a standout. Packed with taste and perfectly rolled, it’s a testament to their craft.

Of course, I couldn’t resist trying out some of their other offerings. The California Roll, Alaskan Roll, and Spider Roll were next on my culinary adventure.

All of them lived up to my expectations, and then some. Each roll was fresh, perfectly balanced in flavor, and incredibly satisfying.

Now, every rose has its thorn, and for Kobe, it’s the slightly frustrating parking. But let me assure you, a small parking hurdle is a tiny price to pay for the gastronomic experience that awaits inside.

Speaking of the inside, Kobe sports a unique and engaging atmosphere. The interior decor is interesting, creating a vibe that’s both fun and relaxing. It’s a resounding A+ in my book.

If you’re in the hunt for some fresh, clean, and flavorful food that doesn’t break the bank, Kobe should be at the top of your list. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a culinary adventure that delights with every roll.

Sushi In Joy

2618 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, WA 98004, United States // +14255761743

Next, I’ll let you in on a secret. On a recent trip to Bellevue, nestled between Kirkland and downtown, I found myself meandering through a nondescript strip mall. Hidden amongst its everyday facades, I stumbled upon a gem that took me by surprise – a sushi haven called Sushi In Joy.

Funny thing, I had driven past it so many times without a second glance. Let’s just say, now I know better.

Stepping inside, I was instantly transported. The dining area was a delightful tribute to traditional Japanese “tatami rooms”, with intricate wood lattices adorning the private tables. Every detail hinted at a careful thoughtfulness that made the atmosphere nothing short of serene.

Service? Top tier. From the moment I entered, the staff made sure my experience was nothing less than perfect.

But as impressive as the ambiance and service were, the pièce de résistance was undeniably the food.

The sashimi – oh, the sashimi! – were sumptuous, generous cuts that were fresh as morning dew. My personal favorite? The salmon sashimi. Each bite was like a symphony of flavors that had me hooked.

Yet, the menu at Sushi In Joy didn’t end at sashimi. It was a carousel of Japanese delights, from an assortment of sushi rolls to heartwarming dinner entrees like crispy chicken katsu and robust bulgogi.

The best part? The entire culinary adventure didn’t burn a hole in my pocket, making it a refreshing alternative to pricier counterparts like FLO Sushi or I Love Sushi.

So, if you ever find yourself in Bellevue, nestled in the strip mall between a shipping store and Silver Platters, you’ll find Sushi In Joy.

Make the pitstop, trust me. Enjoy their fresh sashimi, delectable appetizers, and satisfying maki rolls.

Kura Revolving Sushi Bar

266 116th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004, United States // +13608229333

Last on the list we have a charming spot that shattered all my preconceived notions about a sushi place – Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. Hidden in its understated facade is an experience that is anything but mundane.

Walking in, I was met with a clear, functional design that melded tradition with modernity. Every sushi was protected in a covered container, rotating on a conveyor belt – a carousel of culinary delight. Yet, it was more than just a sushi-go-round.

The magic was in the interactive screen. From it, I could order any sushi, fresh and tailored. As my order was almost ready, the screen would sing a tune to let me know.

Moments later, the screen’s song was met with the arrival of my freshly made sushi on the upper belt.

Oh, and did I mention the robot? Yes, a cute little robot that darted around, bringing drinks and playing music, adding a playful twist to the experience.

Now, let’s talk about the sushi. Each piece was a burst of flavor – fresh and utterly satisfying. While the sushi on the belt is good, there’s nothing quite like the ones made-to-order. They were prepared right when you asked for them, just as fresh but without costing an extra penny.

A few of my favorites? The Aburi Salmon with miso cream cheese had me closing my eyes, savoring every bite.

The seared scallops were divine; the Aburi eel was a delight, and the Seared Salmon with Japanese mayo? Perfection.

A few things might seem overpriced, like the mochi ice cream, but believe me, the overall experience is well worth it.

So, the next time you find yourself in Bellevue, make a beeline for Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. Enjoy the sushi, the robots, and the delightful surprises this understated sushi house has in store.
