The 12 Best Pizza Places In Charleston

New York City Pizza

190 E Bay St #102, Charleston, SC 29401, United States  +18438055933

It was a real pleasure to try the New York City-style pizza at New York City Pizza in downtown Charleston, and it’s safe to say that I left with a taste of the Big Apple right here in the Holy City. The experience was a delightful journey through pizza nostalgia.

Walking into New York City Pizza, I was struck by the familiar, no-frills ambiance that is characteristic of the city’s pizzerias. The place is unpretentious, with simple seating and a few tables for dine-in, but it’s the kind of spot where you come for the food, not the decor.

The main attraction, of course, was the pizza. Their New York City-style slices were the real deal – thin, foldable, and generously topped.

I opted for a classic slice of pepperoni, and it didn’t disappoint. The crust was crisp along the edges yet maintained a satisfying chewiness towards the center, just as it should be.

Buffalo Chicken

Of course, I could afford to leave this place without trying the New York City-style pizza. It was  an iconic and beloved pizza style with thin, wide, and foldable slices. The dough is stretched and spun by hand, creating a thin, pliable base that strikes a balance between crispy and chewy.

I also tried Calzone and Buffalo chicken which was served with a drizzle of blue cheese or ranch dressing.

Whether you’re a local in search of a taste of the city or a visitor yearning for a familiar slice, this place won’t disappoint. Just be prepared to fold your slice and savor that unmistakable taste of the Big Apple in the heart of the Holy City.

Frannie & The Fox

Frannie & The Fox emerged as a culinary highlight of our trip, compelling my friend and I to return not once, but twice, to bask in its warm, inviting embrace.

This relaxed Italian eatery, known for its wood-fired pizzas and convivial happy hours, captivates with homey decor and a charming courtyard that promises more than just a meal—it promises an experience.

The buzz around this place is well-deserved, making a reservation not just recommended, but essential, to ensure a spot in this sought-after locale.

The menu, a testament to Italian culinary traditions, offered an array of choices that tantalized the taste buds.

However, it was the margarita and pepperoni pizzas that stole the show for us. The margarita pizza, adorned with fresh basil and an exquisite basil sauce, was a revelation, transforming a classic dish into something extraordinary.

The pepperoni pizza, too, was executed to perfection, striking the right balance between crispy crust and flavorful toppings.

Accompanying our pizza, the Caesar salad was a fresh, crisp counterpoint that rounded out our meal beautifully.

Choosing to dine alfresco in the courtyard added another layer to our delightful dining experience.

The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, enveloping us in a vibe that was both lively and intimately cozy, perfect for enjoying the balmy Charleston evenings.
