Best Minneapolis Pizza Restaurants

I promise that any of these restaurants will enrich your time in Minneapolis, and if you are visiting some other destinations in Minnesota, don’t forget to check these two guides:

So, let’s begin with our guide to the most excellent Minneapolis pizza.

Lola

5557 Xerxes Ave. S., Minneapolis,  612-424-8338

This pizzeria, which opened in 2006, swept the Twin Cities pizza market by storm with its inventive variations on pizza.

The menu has very diverse and unique options, which caught my attention right from the beginning. The Korean BBQ pizza is the perfect example of Lola’s creativity and innovation. The mix of beef short ribs, scallions, and a soy chili sauce is odd yet amazingly delicious.

Personally, for me, the Sweet Italian with red sauce, fennel sausage, mozzarella, provolone, red onion, and peppadew peppers put everything over the top, and it is a definite must-try on a menu brimming with delectable options. I particularly enjoyed the lightness of the pizzas, which was a delightful experience and unforgettable taste.  Lola is definitely one of the best Minneapolis pizza joints.

Surly Pizza Upstairs

Beer and pizza, what could be better?

In 2018, citizens were happy to hear that Minneapolis’s most famous brewery opened a new pizzeria above the taproom. Shortly after, residents were even more excited when they learned that the pizza was as legit as it gets.

In its first year after opening, this restaurant won Best Pizza in Minneapolis from local magazine CityPages.

Fat Lorenzo’s

5600 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis, 612-822-2040

Fat Lorenzo’s takes pleasure in being “Italian in a big way,” as its motto proclaims, and this old-school Italian icon does pizza like no other. The restaurant is adorned with bright murals created by local artists, and the massive New York-style pies will satisfy even the most ravenous eater. Look no further for the best Minneapolis pizza joint because Fat Lorenzo has it all.

The Fat’s combo with Italian sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and olives or the New Haven-style clam pie are the way to go if you want a whole pizza experience. But, of course, you can also choose your ingredients and create a pizza of your choice. I promise this place will not disappoint you.

Pizza Luce

119 N. 4th St., Minneapolis, 612-333-7359

This restaurant features inventive taste combinations as well as excellent beer pairings, and Luce lovers agree!

With pizzas like the Baked Potato Pizza with garlic red mashed potatoes, broccoli, and bacon, Pizza Athena with Kalamata olives, artichokes, and spinach, Pizza Maximus with Italian sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and their Muffuletta mix of black and green olives and mozzarella cheese on homemade red sauce, you’re guaranteed to receive something different than a regular one-topping pizza. Luce is one of the Minneapolis pizza joints that had me with their variety of pizzas.

Boludo

3749 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, 612-965-2858

530 S. 4th St., Minneapolis, Minneapolis, 612-446-3833

Boludo’s is well-known for its doughy-filled pockets, serving pizza. The store is small, yet it provides enormous, surprising flavors. The crusts are salted to the edges on some pizzas and are delicious and chewy.

Try the Peras with pear, gorgonzola, pine nuts, and dill, or the Campo, with chorizo, mushroom, mozzarella, and rich tomato sauce for distinctive tastes. My favorite was the Campo with San Marzano, chorizo, mushroom, onion, and mozzarella. The mix of flavors and the crunchy crust is an absolute must-have. It also goes incredibly well with the San Pellegrino Aranciata. Trust me, and you won’t be sorry you visited Boludo.

Mesa Pizza

1323 4th St. SE, Minneapolis, 612-436-3006

The best after-bar bet with unique tastes!

Mesa is the go-to site for a 2 a.m. slice, with two locations adjacent to college students and new grads. Even better, there are over 40 unique pies on the menu, so you won’t run out of selections even if you visit frequently.

Popular bar meals, such as gyros, French fries, and mac and cheese have been converted into pizza toppings. The outcomes are unusual, but they work. The Tortellini Pesto, Philly Cheesesteak, and Spicy Chicken Quesadilla pizzas will have you asking why you haven’t tried to make these combinations drunkenly at home.

Wrecktangle Pizza

729 N. Washington Ave. 102, Minneapolis

Wrecktangle Pizza is famous for the tasty Detroit-style pizza, made with a thick but light crust, leavened over a few days to give it a Foccacia-like chew and then cooked in a sheet pan.

The edges of crispy cheese are part of what makes this pizza-making style so unique and special. The chef goes wild with the ingredients, from curly pepperonis topped with a hot sauce to spiked honey to a pizza with tater tots and creamy mushroom sauce.

No matter what kind of pizza you choose, you can’t go wrong with this place!
