Recipient of the “Best Biscuit in the U.S.” award from Food and Wine, the owner swears by his grandma’s original recipe as the secret to their success.

I was immediately struck by the welcoming atmosphere when I walked into Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen. The place was packed with locals and tourists alike, all eagerly awaiting their turn to place their orders. 

I got the Chicken Biscuit combo which came with a drink and a hashbrown. My friend ordered the “bad grampa.”

The hashbrown was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! It was probably one of the best hashbrowns I have had.

I loved the chicken biscuit; the chicken was crispy and tender, and the homemade biscuit was delicious! The “bad grampa” was unique and incredible, a chicken, egg, cheese, and bacon biscuit!

And let’s not forget about the sides. I ordered a side of hashbrowns, which were crispy and well-seasoned, as well as a refreshing glass of sweet tea to wash it all down.

Overall, my experience at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen was nothing short of amazing. The biscuits were some of the best I’ve ever had, and the friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home.

The cafe is situated in the heart of Chapel Hill and is known for its creative and seasonal menu that features a range of classic breakfast dishes, brunch favorites, and innovative takes on traditional fare. 

This diner with terrace seating has been serving creative power bowls, omelets, other staples, and hot and cold beverages since 1998.

With rustic charm and natural light, the space creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home.

I had their Eggs Benedict. All the ingredients were fresh, and the individual elements in the dish were perfectly cooked. Delicious!

With their wonderful pancakes, egg dishes, and other favorites, plus coffee or tea, this downtown cafe with a rustic-modern ambiance is one of the greatest locations to eat breakfast or get brunch in the Chapel Hill neighborhood.

The restaurant expertly blends old and new elements to create a scene that will excite your visual senses the moment you step inside.

The room’s walls are red bricks, the floor is wooden, and the tables and chairs are wooden, with chic lamps hanging from the ceiling at the end. It’s an incredible view, for sure.

This place is fantastic! The environment is excellent, as are the employees.

You can try a wide range of foods, beverages, and coffees. I had the chicken, waffles, shrimp, and grits, which I highly suggest trying.

I also ordered a strawberry mocha. It was really sweet, but it also had the tartness of a strawberry. Superb execution.

I’m not sure how it is when it is bustling, but I know it is very nice when it isn’t. They also have a good selection of music.

I ordered some of Breadmen’s famous biscuits to accompany my meal, which did not disappoint. 

They were fluffy and buttery, and we couldn’t resist slathering them with the homemade jam that came on the side.

Overall, Breadmen’s exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive.

Nestled inside the iconic Carolina Inn in the charming town of Chapel Hill, Crossroads Chapel Hill is a restaurant that’s been attracting foodies and locals alike with its elevated takes on classic Southern cuisine. 

The restaurant boasts an elegant yet cozy atmosphere, with warm lighting, comfortable seating, and tasteful decor. 

Everything was bright and open, and the staff was very welcoming and made one look forward to sitting and enjoying a good meal.

We opted for the Chapel Hill brunch buffet, which was everything we could have asked for without being too elaborate or stuffed full of extras.

It was impressive to see how immaculately the steaming trays were kept and how fresh and full they were.

The food was perfect, with crisp bacon and sausage with soft and fluffy biscuits off to the side. There were also plenty of fresh sliced fruits, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, and other goodies.

The coffee was refilled frequently and quietly. There was no commotion; it was simply a place to relax and enjoy each other’s company. It’s definitely worth a visit!

Mama Dip’s Kitchen

This iconic restaurant has been a beloved staple of the community for over 40 years, serving up some of the best down-home cooking in the area. 

The décor was elegant, with rustic chandeliers and a stunning fireplace as the dining room’s centerpiece. 

The service was also top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff ensuring that every detail of our dining experience was perfect. We started with hot chocolate and water. The hot chocolate was on point. 

Now, let’s get to the good stuff – the food. The brunch menu at this Chapel Hill restaurant was a fusion of classic French dishes and traditional Southern fare. 

We started with a basket of fresh, warm croissants and a cup of strong coffee to kickstart our morning. 

For our entrees, my friend and I decided to share the family-style menu, which was the perfect way to try a little bit of everything.

The family-style menu consisted of Mama Dip’s famous fried chicken with mac and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread.

The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned, with juicy and tender meat on the inside. The mac and cheese was creamy and comforting, while the collard greens added a delicious touch of Southern soul food.

But that’s not all – the family-style menu also came with shrimp and grits, which were hands down the best I’ve ever had. 

The grits were creamy and savory, and the shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked. The dish was topped with a flavorful tomato-based sauce and bits of bacon, adding an extra delicious layer.

To finish our meal, we indulged in Mama Dip’s famous banana pudding, the perfect sweet ending to a delightful brunch. The pudding was creamy and decadent, with layers of banana slices and vanilla wafers.

I can’t speak highly enough of this place. The combination of elegant ambiance, attentive service, and delicious food made for a genuinely unforgettable brunch experience.

La Residence is a local family-owned restaurant that opened in 1976. La Residence is the best place for party planning because they offer the best service, ambiance, and seasonal cuisine that are tailored to each party’s needs.

As soon as I walked into the elegant and charming space, I was transported to a Parisian café. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with natural light flooding in from the large windows and soft French music playing in the background. 

The brunch menu was equally impressive, with a mix of classic French dishes and traditional American Chapel Hill brunch fare.

I started with a mimosa, of course, and it was perfectly crafted with just the right amount of bubbly and citrusy goodness. 

For my entree, I couldn’t resist trying the Croque Madame, a classic French dish that consists of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a sunny-side-up egg on top.

The sandwich was crispy and melty, and the egg added the perfect touch of creaminess.

My friend opted for the classic Eggs Benedict, which came with a generous helping of perfectly poached eggs, Canadian bacon, and hollandaise sauce on top of an English muffin. 

The dish was perfectly executed, with the eggs perfectly cooked and the hollandaise sauce creamy and tangy.

We also decided to indulge in a side of French toast, which was fluffy and perfectly caramelized on the outside. It was served with a generous helping of maple syrup and fresh berries, and it was the perfect sweet addition to our meal.

Overall, our brunch experience at La Residence was nothing short of fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere was charming and sophisticated, and the food was divine. 

I can’t wait to return and try some of the other dishes on the menu, and I would highly recommend La Residence to anyone looking for upscale brunch places in Chapel Hill!

For my brunch, I started with the “Crab” Cakes, made with hearts of palm and served with a tangy remoulade sauce.

They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a perfectly seasoned flavor that made me forget they were vegan. 

Next up was the “Egg” and Cheese Sandwich, which was made with a tofu “egg” patty, vegan cheese, and a house-made vegan biscuit. The sandwich was hearty and filling, with a satisfying texture that left me feeling full and satisfied.

Of course, no brunch is complete without a sweet treat, and Vegan Flava Cafe did not disappoint in that department either. 

I tried the Vegan Cinnamon Roll, which was soft, fluffy, and gooey, with just the right amount of cinnamon flavor. It was the perfect way to cap off an incredible brunch experience.

Overall, my visit to Vegan Flava Cafe for brunch was nothing short of amazing. The food was creative, flavorful, and satisfying, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
