To start this article, I want to share with you one of the most delightful discoveries I made while exploring the enchanting streets of Krakow’s Old Town; a cozy, inviting restaurant that instantly captured my heart (and stomach), the Old Town Restaurant and Wine Bar.

With its warm, wood-paneled interiors and a menu brimming with delectable Eastern European dishes, this charming eatery is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the true essence of Krakow’s vibrant food scene.

As we stepped into the restaurant’s cozy ambiance, my foodie instincts told me we were in for a treat.

Eager to try a bit of everything, we ordered mixed dumplings for starters, followed by the legendary Pork Knuckle and Pork Loin for mains. And for dessert, I couldn’t resist trying their poached pear.

But before we even got to the appetizers, the lovely staff surprised us with a complimentary plate of homemade pork fat served with bread. Oh, my taste buds were singing! It was truly an amazing start to our culinary journey.

The dumplings that arrived next were nothing short of perfection. Each bite was an explosion of delicious flavors, making me fall in love with this classic Eastern European dish all over again.

Now, let’s talk about that Pork Knuckle. It was massive and cooked to absolute perfection in a delectable honey glaze.

The crackling was divine, and the tender meat just fell off the bone. To be honest, it was so much food that I almost tapped out, but the irresistible taste kept me going!

The pork loin was equally delicious, and the unique pairing of cold braised cabbage added a delightful twist.

After such an indulgent feast, the poached pear dessert was a refreshing palate cleanser. The combination of cherries and amaretto added a touch of sophistication to this light and airy delight.

To top it all off, we couldn’t resist trying the Black Elderberry shots. As if the evening couldn’t get any better, the staff presented us with a complimentary raspberry vodka shot when we asked for the bill. Talk about fantastic service!

Throughout our visit, the knowledgeable and friendly staff made us feel right at home. Their passion for providing top-notch service and exceptional cuisine truly shone through.

Breaded pork chop

Eager to dive into the true essence of Polish cuisine, my friend and I shared a plate of meat dumplings topped with crispy pork bits – an absolute delight for the taste buds!

For our main courses, my friend opted for the breaded pork chop (similar to a schnitzel), while I couldn’t resist ordering their traditional pork knuckle.

Let me tell you, the food was nothing short of divine. The pork knuckle was so tender it practically fell off the bone!

Just a heads up, though – the main dishes come without sides, so we ordered one roast potato, one boiled potato, and a simple side salad to share. It was the perfect accompaniment to our hearty meal.

To quench our thirst, we enjoyed four Diet Cokes and treated ourselves to two delicious cherry vodkas, which only added to the overall charm of the evening.

If you ever find yourself wandering the mesmerizing streets of Krakow’s Old Town, don’t miss the opportunity to experience the magic of Morskie Oko.

I guarantee you’ll be captivated by its ambiance, hospitality, and, most importantly, the tasty traditional Polish dishes!

Kogel Mogel

Sienna 12, 31-041 Kraków, Poland // +48533333436

Nestled in the heart of this historic area lies a culinary gem called Kogel Mogel, a fine-dining Krakow restaurant that takes classic Polish cuisine to a whole new level of sophistication, all wrapped up in a stylish and elegant decor.

From the moment we stepped through the doors, we felt warmly welcomed by the incredibly friendly team, who were all fluent in English – perfect for those of us who may be a little rusty on our Polish.

One of the things that struck me right away was the dedication to using only the highest quality ingredients in every dish.

The menu offered a delightful mix of traditional Polish favorites and international classics; each prepared with an artistic flair and an unmistakable passion for the culinary arts.

As for the wine selection, it was a treasure trove of liquid delight! A carefully curated list of wines featuring both familiar favorites and hidden gems was just waiting to be paired with our meal.

The Prosecco we chose turned out to be the best I’ve ever tasted, which only added to the memorable experience.

Beetroot soup

As we perused the main and special menus, we were captivated by the compelling options that begged to be tasted.

We decided to start with a unique tasting board of Polish treats; think succulent goose sausage, thinly sliced dried goose, tangy pickles, and more.

The restaurant graciously accommodated my request to swap out the foie gras for some delicious Polish cheese, showcasing their commitment to personalized service.

We also tried the beetroot soup. The vibrant color and slightly earthy, yet sweet flavor made for a refreshing and unusual start to our meal.

For our main courses, we opted for the breast of Guinea fowl and the half duck with baked apple.

The truffle oil-infused potato cake accompanying the Guinea fowl was a divine surprise, adding a luxurious twist to the tender and succulent bird.

The duck was flavorful and tender, albeit a tad on the heavy side. We both agreed that a sauce or jus would have been a lovely addition to the dish, offering a burst of flavor to complement the meat.

Despite feeling full, we couldn’t resist sharing a chocolate orange cheesecake for dessert, savoring each decadent bite while basking in the serene ambiance created by the soft lighting and gentle background music.

To accompany our sumptuous mains, we shared two portions of pan-fried potatoes with crispy bacon, adding a touch of indulgence to our meal.

Upon the recommendation of our knowledgeable waitress, we paired our dishes with a local dry Srebrna Gora red wine, which complemented our selections beautifully.

Despite feeling utterly satisfied, we couldn’t leave without indulging in dessert. The alluring chocolate gingerbread and classic apple pie beckoned us, and we surrendered to their sweet temptation. Each bite was a testament to the skill and dedication of the kitchen team.

As a fitting finale to our memorable meal, the restaurant gifted us with a complimentary shot of their homemade plum vodka, leaving a warm and comforting impression as we bid farewell to this delightful culinary haven.
