I noticed in the month that I spent in Kiev that restaurants serving traditional Georgian dishes and (surprisingly) Vietnamese food both seem to be very popular.
I’ve put together a list for you of 21 of the best places to eat in Kiev, so you don’t have to spend all your time searching for somewhere to eat. Just pick a restaurant from this list and you won’t be disappointed.
The 21 Best Restaurants in Kiev, Ukraine
The Last Barricade
Independence Square, near the gate Lyadsky // +38 068 907 1991
Ostannya Barykada (The Last Barricade) is a restaurant inspired by three of the most popular revolutions in the Ukraine: Student Revolution on the Granite in 1990, Orange Revolution in 2004, and the Revolution of Dignity in 2014.
To enter you have to give a password (BORITESYA E POBORYTE), and then you are entered into a storytelling dining adventure like none-other. Affectionately called “the storytelling restaurant”, as you eat local Ukrainian and European dishes you’ll learn about the stories of these revolutions and the people involved.
Because it’s so popular with tourists we didn’t expect a lot from the food. We were pleasantly surprised- we all enjoyed the dishes we ordered and most of the portions were large enough to share.

Not only does The Last Barricade have traditional Ukrainian dishes you can try but they also have an impressive selection of steaks as well.

Travel writer and owner of the blog. My work has been featured on Fodors, Eater.com, International Living, and Great Escape Publishing, among many others. My story? Nearly six years ago, I left my job at an Oklahoma City law firm and embarked on a journey around the world. At the time, I thought I would only be gone for 6 months, but the more I traveled, the longer my bucket list became. Flashpacker describes how I travel. Rather than traveling as the normal world wise backpacker and staying in hostel dorms, I prefer a more comfortable experience, and typically stay in private rooms, take Ubers instead of taxis, and now use a suitcase instead of a backpack. Foodie, on the other hand, describes one of the key reasons why I travel. I love to pick a central “base camp” and then explore the surrounding area, really immersing myself in the culture and interacting with the people, and enjoying and exploring the food of an area is an essential part of this experience.

I love the idea of getting acquainted with new cuisines. To me, local food from another place can introduce me to another culture I am not familiar with. It would be nice if someone from Kyiv can introduce us to great restaurants nearby.
