Sanibel Island is connected to mainland Florida by a three-mile-long causeway extending into the Gulf of Mexico from Fort Myers. On one side of the causeway, you’ll see the rolling surf, and on the other side, you can observe the gentler waters of San Carlos Bay. In the end, you encounter a world that is a part wildlife sanctuary, part shelling mecca, and a vacation paradise, especially the multitude of great Sanibel Island restaurants. Many visitors come and love it so much they choose to live there permanently or for at least half of each year.
